Project's description: The incorporation of nature's healing power and raw appeal has always been a significant focus in home design. However, due to the constraints of residential floor plans in the Chinese real estate sector, harmoniously integrating nature into the interior living environment can be challenging—too much makes it impractical, too little leaves it uninspiring.
How to overcome this challenge?
As conceiving the home for a family with three children, c.dd team approached the design from a human-centered perspective, focusing on the core needs of the family and the natural instincts of children to facilitate their growth. By merge two independent apartments and leveraging the advantages of the original layout—dual entrances and double balconies, the design team creatively proposed the "Four Gardens" concept. This innovative idea envisions four distinct natural experiences at each entrance and balcony, turning them into small living gardens. This setup enables the family to engage with nature frequently and foster a healthier, more peaceful, and sustainable lifestyle.
Nature Infused in Daily Life
Upon entering the foyer, a natural vibe immediately greets the occupants, setting the mood for relaxation and homecoming. The space uses a complementary palette of stone and wood veneers, creating both visual comfort and a rich connection to nature. The ceiling and flower bed are softly defined with curves, echoing the vitality of nature through fluid, organic shapes.
Near the foyer lies a spacious, open space that merges living, dining, and kitchen areas. While there are no physical barriers between these functional zones, each area maintains a sense of enclosure defined by its settings. This design allows for diverse daily activities to unfold naturally beyond everyday routine.
Breaking away from the monotonous visual experience of traditional residences, every corner serves a window for engaging with nature. Large transparent facades bring the outdoor landscape indoors, where seasonal changes become the backdrop of daily life. This dynamic fusion between the interior and exterior not only enriches the space but also deepens the residents' connection with nature at every corner of the home.
The space incorporates primitive, powerful natural textures across a large expanse. The warm wood tones create visual tranquility, and the stone elements, imbued with the strength of the earth, add a sense of time and sophistication to the interior. Additional elements such as grille, leather, and hanging painting inject vitality and playfulness into the home, highlighting a lively and playful lifestyle.
Multi-dimensional Interactions
In the integrated open space, the living room, dining area, kitchen, and children's activity zone each accommodate distinct functional scenes, yet they are seamlessly interconnected through a fluid design. The expansive and flowing layout provides ample room for children to move freely—running, jumping, and engaging in various activities.
The flexible, modular sofa arrangement encourages a variety of daily interactions. It serves as a playful "base" for children and a cozy space for family members to engage in intimate conversations. This flexibility enhances communication among family members while adding fun to family life.
Considering the needs of a family with three children, the design creates an efficient storage solution that balances tidiness and aesthetics. Whether organizing children's toys or storing household daily necessities, the thoughtfully planned hidden storage system maximizes space utilization while maintaining the overall warmth and comfort of the home.
Sanctuary of Pure Innocence
By combining functions, the design integrates a bookshelf and a children's slide, creating an engaging activity area, where children can learn through play and grow through exploration. This thoughtful integration allows pure innocence and joy to permeate the space.
The design places a strong emphasis on safety, rounding all external corners in the space to ensure protection. Visually, these soft contours add a gentle aesthetic to the space, enhancing its cozy and warm atmosphere.
A home is more than just a place for daily life—it is a nurturing environment for children's growth. The design emphasizes values like sharing, care, and belonging, subtly influencing the positive growth of children.
Easeful and Free Living
The bedroom design focuses on softness and serenity, aiming to offer a retreat for residents to unwind and relax. The room creates a gentle, tranquil visual experience that encourages the relaxation of all the senses, allowing the body and mind to momentarily detach from the daily hustle and bustle. In this serene environment, the occupants can reconnect and recharge with renewed energy.
This project represents a natural living experiment, uncovering that life can grow freely in a more authentic and self-expressive way. With the rhythm of nature and an unconventional flow, it invites the occupants to move beyond established orders and boundaries, embracing unrestrained freedom and finding more possibilities for life.
